difference between MH-C800S and MH-C801D

Filed under: FAQ by Jeff Servaas |

800SThe main difference between the MH-C800S and MH-C801D is the charge rate. The 801D charges at 2000mA, so 2700mAh AA rechargeable batteries take 1.35 hours to charge if completely flat, and 2100mAh low discharge AA rechargeable batteries take just over 1 hour. The 800S charges at 1000mA, so the 2700mAh batteries take 2.7 hours to charge if completely empty.

Both battery chargers have a “soft charge” function which will charge at half the normal rate.

The other difference is that the 801D has a commercial grade power supply with a DIN connector, whereas the 800S has a smaller wall-wart style power supply.

  1. Some questions on the MH-C800S:

    1. After the full charge (indicator show “Done”), does the C800S maintain the tricker charge? if yes what’s the charge current?

    2. I’ve just got 8pcs of the PowerEx 2700mAh AA, I start to charge 4pcs in “Soft Mode” it that about ~8 hours to finished and show “Done” in the indicator, is this normal? since the “Soft Mode” charge current was 500mA if base on calculation it should take no more then 6 hours (to give 3000mA to the batts) to complete the charge.

    3. Last and “old” question that remain “un-clear” for many peoples, is it safe to remain the NIMH batts in the C800S (or any MAHA smart charger) 24/7 after it’s fully charged?? If not why?

    Thanks & Regard,
    Steven

  2. Hi Steven

    1. Yes, both the 800S and he 801D will switch to a trickle charge once the batteries are fully charged. The charge rate is 10mA

    2. I would expect it to take closer to 6 hours than 8 hours. The time difference may be explained by the less than 100% efficiency in the transfer of energy from the charger to the battery.

    3. The 10mA trickle charge rate is a very low amount of energy. It is not designed for charging, just to keep the battery at full capacity. At such a low rate it is safe to leave the batteries in the 800S or 801D until you are ready to use them.
